AIS turns trash into cash!

Assalamu Alaikum, Parents, Guardians and Community Members!

As many of you know, the school raises money in many small projects. There are quite a few that the school would like you to be aware of and hopefully participate in. Most of these projects would go into the trash, so why not turn them into money for Annoor Islamic School. You can send any of these collections with Annoor Islamic School students or drop them off in the school office during regular school hours.

Box Tops—Sr. Eileen has collected these for many years. These little pink squares can be found on so many items that families use everyday. Please check out the website for the participating products: http://www.boxtops4education.com/Image.aspx?id=2164 . Sr. Eileen needs to send off her next shipment at the end of this month, so the school is asking to turn in Box Tops by Oct. 27 through your student.

Campbell’s Soup Labels—These labels have been collected in the past and the school wants to renew the participation. The school needs the UPC code (what’s scanned at the cash register) or cap, depending on the product. Sr. Aisha’s class will be collecting these. A list of participating products can be found here: http://www.labelsforeducation.com/pdf/eligible_products.pdf . Note that some products are worth 5 points and some are worth 1 point. These labels and caps can be sent with your students at any time.

Capri Sun Juice Packets—Sr. Stephanie has been collecting them for a year. Many students bring them in after their lunch. These pouches can be brought in at any time, as she sends them when she gets a bunch. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Nabisco Cookie Wrappers—Sr. Stephanie is also collecting the wrappers from cookies made by Nabisco. Some of these cookies include Oreo and Chips Ahoy. These cookie wrappers can be brought in any time to her classroom. She will send them off as she collects a large quantity. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Sunny D Labels—The school is collecting labels from the drink Sunny D in order to receive free books for the library and/or classrooms. Have students return the labels in an envelop and give them to Sr. Dana. These labels must be turned in by Nov. 10. For more information, visit the website at: http://www.sunnyd.com/bookspree/rules.html

Tyson Chicken Project A+ Labels—Sr. Allison’s class is collecting labels from ready-to-eat products from Tyson. The list of participating products can be found here: http://www.tyson.com/projectaplus/Products/Default.aspx . In this project, the UPC code is not needed; instead, the area where it has the Project A+ logo needs to be turned in. Each label earns the school $0.24, which is greater than many other projects. The labels can be brought in at any time. Each classroom will have a collection box for these labels, Insha Allah.

Malt-O-Meal Cereal Bags—The AIQ department is collecting the Malt-O-Meal cereal bags in order to raise money for the department. Send in these bags at any time and the department will send them in when they have collected a large amount. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Scott’s Brand Packaging—The AIQ department is also collecting the packaging from the Scott brand of paper products—paper towels, toilet paper, napkins and flushable moist wipes. This packaging can be brought in at any time and the department will start to collect rewards when there’s enough packaging to send in the first shipment. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Huggies Packaging—The AIQ department is also collecting the plastic outer packaging off of Huggies diapers. This packaging can be brought in at any time. As soon as they receive enough for a shipment, the school will start accumulating funds. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Scotch Tape Dispensers and Cores—The AIQ department is also collecting the empty Scotch brand dispenser and cores (where the tape was…). These items can be brought in at any time. For more information on this, check out the website at: http://www.terracycle.net/brigades?show_all=true

Pop/Soda cans—The middle school is gearing up to collect pop/soda cans. Real soon, the gym will have special trash cans for dropping off cans. However, feel free to start bringing cans at any time, as the collection will continue the entire school year, Insha Allah.

Old cell phones and ink cartridges—The school is accepting old (not broken) cell phones. These cell phones, depending on the make and model, will bring money to the school. The ink cartridges (empty and not broken), both ink and laser, are also going to bring the school money. The students can drop off these items in Sr. Dana’s office at any time.

These are the items that the school is collecting at this current moment. Insha Allah, as more items are collected, the school will let the community know. Insha Allah, more links about this will be on the school’s website by week’s end.

Remember, it is so easy to throw all this in the trash, but with a small amount of time, the school can get money out of these items. Also, instead of going to a landfill, these items are going to be recycled, so you and the school are doing things to help the environment.

Stay tuned....More ways to give money to AIS coming in the next few days...
